A historic core with a very modern pulse
The City of London has long been my favourite part of the capital to photograph in. Within a few streets you can move from Wren churches and Victorian market halls to some of the most recognisable modern architecture in Europe — which means a single shoot can produce genuinely different looks without a car journey between them.
That range matters for personal branding. The backdrop you choose is doing part of the communication: historic settings suggest tradition, integrity and permanence, while the towers suggest ambition, innovation and scale. Most professionals working in the City need to say a bit of both.
It's also where a lot of my corporate work happens — headshots at client offices, conferences, networking events and receptions, often in the same buildings my branding clients want as a backdrop.

St Paul's Cathedral
Grand and instantly recognisable. Reads as legacy, perseverance and seriousness — a strong choice when credibility is the priority.
Leadenhall Market
Ornate Victorian ironwork and painted detail. Adds warmth and character, and photographs beautifully in poor weather since it's covered.
Cloth Fair & Lovat Lane
Narrow historic lanes tucked between the towers. Good for balancing tradition against innovation in the same set of images.
Sky Garden, 20 Fenchurch Street
Panoramic views across London from inside a planted atrium. Suits a forward-looking, ambitious read — booking is required in advance.
The Gherkin & The Shard
Modern landmarks that signal progress and scale, whether shot from the base or across the river.
Bank Junction & the Royal Exchange
The commercial heart of the Square Mile. Hard to beat for anyone in finance, law or professional services.
Postman's Park
A quiet garden in the middle of the district — useful for contrast when a gallery of images is otherwise relentlessly corporate.
Who a City shoot suits
The City is the natural choice for professionals whose credibility is tied to the financial and professional services world: fund managers, lawyers, accountants, fintech founders, consultants and advisors.
It also suits businesses running events in the district. I photograph conferences, networking evenings, client receptions and launches across the Square Mile, and can combine event coverage with team headshots in the same visit if that's useful.
One practical note: many of the most striking spots here are privately owned or protected, and some — Sky Garden included — need booking or permission in advance. I check this before we shoot rather than discovering it on the day.

Do you need permission to photograph in the City of London?+
Public streets and parks are generally fine for portrait work. Private estates, some plazas around the towers, and interiors like Sky Garden have their own rules and often need booking or written permission. I research and arrange this in advance so the shoot isn't interrupted.
Can you come to our office for headshots?+
Yes, and for teams it's usually the most efficient option. I bring professional lighting and can set up in a meeting room or open space, photographing people a few at a time so nobody's day is disrupted for long.
What should I wear for a shoot in the City?+
For historic backdrops, classic and relatively muted pieces tend to sit best. Against the modern towers you can go sharper and bolder. Either way it should reflect how you actually present yourself professionally — bring two or three options and we'll create variety.
Do you photograph corporate events in the City?+
Yes — conferences, networking events, client receptions, awards evenings and launches. Coverage runs from an hour to a full day, and fast-turnaround selections can be arranged when images are needed quickly for PR or social media.
What's the best time of day to shoot here?+
Early morning is often best for exteriors: the light is softer and the streets are considerably quieter, which makes it much easier to work around landmarks like Bank Junction or St Paul's without crowds in the background.
